The shame of ones own identity - How black Africans deny their own identity in Germany!
Africa is a continent of many culture and history. Each African, regardless of which village or city he/she comes from, and why he/she is in Europe, should be proud of himself/herself and his/her origin. However, However, some black Africans in Germany find it hard to stand up for their own identity. Instead, they present themselves as Americans, Canadians, etc.; be it in discos, among student, or among workmates.
We want to know, why they do this. Is is about gaining more acceptance? And should one be ashamed of ones own identity, in order to gain advantages? How can one succeed in strengthening the self-esteem of black Africans here in Germany?

Juni 2010 – ‚Die Scham vor der eigenen Identität – Wie Schwarzafrikaner ihre eigene Identität in Deutschland verleugnen‘
Der 17.06.2010 markierte den Beginn vom ‚Stammtisch zur Integration‘; eines neuen Veranstaltungsformats im Frankfurter ‚Club Voltaire‘. Der Stammtisch wird alle ein bis zwei Monate von der Initiative 'Offenes Diskussionsforum' des 'Forum für mehr Integration’ e.V. durchgeführt werden. Im Zentrum wird dabei eine offene Diskussion aller zu einem ausgewählten Thema der Integration stehen. Diesmal stand die Frage der Identität von Schwarzafrikanern in Deutschland zur Debatte.
Anlass für diese Debatte war für Lynda Hamelburg und Wenceslas Condidamde vom ‚Forum für mehr Integration, dass Afrika eigentlich ein Kontinent mit vielen Kulturen und Geschichte ist. Jeder Afrikaner, egal aus welchem Dorf oder Stadt und aus welchen Gründen hier in Europa, sollte, so die beiden, stolz auf sich und seine Herkunft sein. Dennoch falle es einigen Schwarzafrikanern in Deutschland schwer, sich zu ihrer eigenen Identität zu bekennen. Die Frage war, wieso dies so ist. Provokant fragten sie, ob es vielleicht um mehr Akzeptanz oder Vorteile gehe. Sie machten deutlich, dass ihr Anliegen sei, das Selbstwertgefühl von Schwarzafrikanern hier in Deutschland zu stärken.
